James is a highly regarded and enormously experienced Chartered Tax Adviser. He helps Businesses, Shareholders, Property Investors, and Private Individuals to minimise their tax liabilities. He specialises in providing strategic advice on tax planning and also in dealing with tax investigations. |
He has spoken about tax issues on TV and on Radio, and written articles on tax planning for various professional journals.
James’ professional experience includes advising owner managed businesses, wealthy or high income individuals, and also multinational companies, financial institutions, and national charities - all of whom have benefited from his practical and down to earth approach to tax planning.
His expertise is measurable by the fact that his advice is often sought by other firms of accountants and also solicitors all around the UK when dealing with their own clients’ tax affairs.
James also has considerable experience of arguing cases before the General Commissioners, both as a Tax Inspector with HM Revenue and Customs, and on behalf of taxpayers.
James began his career in taxation as an Inspector of Taxes with HM Revenue & Customs, reaching the rank of Deputy District Inspector of a large London tax district. During his time with the Revenue, he ran investigations into the tax affairs of a wide range of individuals and businesses, ranging from local family businesses to multinational companies – and one or two celebrities.
Upon leaving the Revenue, James had a successful career with two of the UK's 'Big 4' accountancy firms, specialising in tax planning for family companies and wealthy individuals, before establishing his own specialist tax consultancy practice in 2002. James is now the Tax Partner at Robinson Reed Layton, a well-known firm of accountants in Truro, Cornwall.
